Canna & Other Rhizomes

Virus  Free Canna Rhizomes & More

Our Rhizomes are harvested from growing plants and these are best started into growth immediately on arrival, in warm conditions. We do not recommend that you try to store them until the spring. Canna Rhizomes naturally do not go dormant and if left too long as a dried root they will die. Also Gesneriaceae will quickly dry out if not planted in heat and moisture as soon as possible after delivery.

Please note that we normally only deliver these items within the UK and they all have additional shipping charges (30p per item) because of the extra weight. Please select Roots as the base shipping option for all rhizomes.

1 Rhizome җ
Canna Yellow Bird a seed raised hybrid by Jungleseeds is a cross of Orange Punch and Richard Wallace. The result is a slightly taller plant than Orange Punch with large open deep yellow spotted flowers held in large sprays rather than upright. This species habit is derived from its Inridiflora genes obtained through Orange Punch. The flowers are self dead heading but needs a sheltered spot to help prevent older flowers dropping too early. Deep green strong foliage.

Hot Water Plants 3 small (5mm to 20mm) healthy rhizomes

Achimenes a member of the Gesneriacea family are often called hot water plants. Easy to grow if you have a warm propagator to start them off and a warm shady glasshouse to grow them on. Avoid direct sunlight. They make an excellent pot plant to bring indoors when in full flower. The plants die back in winter and the compost should be kept warm and dry but not bone dry, then harvest the new rhizomes from the roots planting back in a propagator to get them started again. I have a few freshly harvested rhizomes available left from my own plants in a few different colours. NOTE: Please plant in a heated propagator using a fine seed compost. as soon as delivered!

Smithiantha 'Early Spring'

New for 2021!

Orange Temple Bells 1 strong healthy rhizome

I have been growing Smithiantha as pot plants on and off for 50 years. They are delightful members of the Gesneriad family and grown from rhizomes each year like Achimenes. They need semi shade plenty of warmth and avoid watering the lovely green and bronze marbled leaves. As they mature a flowering spike appears supporting an array of bell shaped flowers in shades of orange, scarlet, yellow or pink depending on the variety. They can grow quite tall to 2ft depending on conditions. As long as kept out of direct sunlight, watered very carefully to avoid any damping off and given 20c plus humid conditions they are very rewarding. They are not often available for sale and these rhizomes have been propagated by us.
